Overview: 

The Coaches Association of Ontario and the RBC First Office for Injury Prevention at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre are pleased to jointly offer the "Return to Play Series".

 

Format (updated):

The webinar will be 60 minutes long and will include an informal discussion based on questions from the moderator and audience (live and online).

 

Recommended audience: coaches, parents, athletes, managers, volunteers, sport administrators, healthcare professionals.

To attend in person: 

Please register as an "in-person participant".  There will be 30 seats available at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre to participate in person.  The session will take place in Room D506 (D-wing, 5th floor, room 06).  Paid visitor parking is available at Sunnybrook.  The facility is also serviced by two TTC routes - #11 from Davisville Station and #124 from Lawrence Station.

Barrie Shepley is the Vice-Chair on the Board of Directors of the Coaches Association of Ontario, and a member in good standing. He is also the President of Personal Best Health & Performance Inc. Barrie has been training elite athletes for more than ten years and was Canada’s first National Triathlon Coach. He was also the first Olympic Triathlon Head Coach for Canada in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. Barrie is the only coach inducted into the Triathlon Canada Hall of Fame. He is a graduate of Canada’s National Coaching Institute, completing the High Performance Diploma program of the National Coaching Certification Program (NCCP).  In addition to coaching, Barrie is very involved in the community. He is a founding member of several associations including the Ontario Association of Triathletes, Kids of Steel (national youth program), Triathlon Canada, C3-Canadian Cross Training Club and the Coaches Association of Ontario. Barrie continues to coach High Performance Athletes around the world, and is well respected leader in the sport community

 

Susan L. Forbes, BA, MA, PhD, is an Adjunct Professor in the School of Kinesiology at Lakehead University and the Research Project Manager for Play It Cool, an injury prevention program that aims to reduce neurotrauma injuries (spinal/concussion) in hockey. A former faculty member in the Department of Physical Education and Kinesiology at Brock University, her research has addressed a variety of topics including women’s sport and recreation history, injury prevention and sports officiating. She is a former nationally ranked women’s lacrosse official and has 30+ years of coaching experience, including being an NCCP course conductor. Dr. Forbes, along with Dr. Lori Livingston, also examine factors affecting the retention and attrition of sports officials, as well as the role of officials in injury prevention.
